While the nation fights in The War of 1812, Amelia Samuels fightes her own battle. Her father is forcing her to marry Thomas Van Martin, the son of the wealthiest man in Millersport. Thomas is everything she's against in a man and the last thing she wants is for him to be her husband. When she has nobody to turn to, she befriends Patrick Buchanan, the village stranger. After falling in love, Amelia and Patrick discover the reason behind her unwanted engagement but Amelia finds herself in grave danger before she can make things right. Amelia's Story is about a village seeking the truth. It's what happens when one man's mistakes effects the entire community. Though the residents of Millersport never learn the complete truth, the readers of this story will know exactly what happened that frightful night of August 25, 1813.
This is a historical fiction with a touch of romance and mystery. It is a stand alone, but I would so love to read what the future holds for Anna and some some of the other characters. This is a mesmerizing book and I found myself entranced in the details and could not put the book down until I was finished. But beware you will never guess the ending!! Just when you think you know, you are in for a surprise! Amelia is such a compassionate person and regardless of her devotion to her father I would have left as soon as I could have, and never looked back. Honestly I hate Thomas Van Martin but with the same passion I despised Jacob Miller... you have to read to find out why. This is a great read, you will not be disappointed. Its 1812 and Amelia Samuels has kept herself busy talking care of her family since her mother passed. She has never once complained or made any quarrel about never having any time for herself. She is respectful and a doting daughter. Unbeknownst to Amelia, her father has gotten himself into some trouble and has offered her hand in marriage to a rich man's son that is not worthy. Of course Amelia has done everything to discourage her father the match, to no avail. Sadly she is heartbroken but she will never give up trying.Patrick Buchanan wonders into town, he meets people along the way but Amelia is the only one who offers any kindness. They slowly build up a friendship, that forms a bond and soon a love. During all of this Patrick discovers why Amelia's father is forcing her hand and explains to her the reason, he will not force her to choose him over her father. All he can do is allow her to make her own decision, but at what cost?favorite passages:"His arms were an abundance of strength and covered with bronzed flesh.""His words were like ice being thrown at her; cold and painful.""She was a wild fire that couldn't be put out without trouble, a trait that she inherited from her mother.""I feel that I'm being selfish; hogging you to myself.""She grew as mad as a March hare.""Her blue eyes reminded him of crystal water in a lake which made him him thirsty.""He was making his way through the house towards the kitchen when he stopped and put his hand over his heart. It was breaking underneath his skin." <3
