How can you say goodbye to the love of your life?In Undying Michel Faber honours the memory of his wife, who died after a six-year battle with cancer. Bright, tragic and candid, these poems are an exceptional chronicle of what it means to find the love of your life. And what it is like to have to say goodbye. All I can do, in what remains of my brief time,is mention, to whoever cares to listen, that a woman once existed, who was kindand beautiful and brave, and I will not forgethow the world was altered, beyond recognition, when we met.
If you want to read some poetry but don't know where to start, give this book a try. (This author also wrote one of my all-time favorite books, the sci-fi novel: The Book of Strange New Things.) This slim volume collects the poems he wrote during and after the death of his wife (to cancer). In a way that only poetry can capture, he beautifully expresses his experiences of loss and grief and love. The work is deeply moving and truly extraordinary. It deserves a wider audience. The poem "Don't Hesitate to Ask" is probably my favorite.
