- A great read also makes a great gift! - - Synopsis - By the time he was five he was a kid with a dream: someday he'd be a baseball player. Gifted with extraordinary skills, a story book romance, rare physical abilities, and Hollywood handsome looks, it appeared Tony had been blessed by the gods. In the midst of this, however, he was beset with the most challenging experience of his life, an event that nearly killed him. Doctors feared he would never see again; fans feared he'd never play again; his family and the love of his life watched in horror, fearing he might never rise again as he lay in the dirt beside home plate, wreathing in agony. This is more than a sports story. This is a human interest story, a love story, a story of triumph, and one of the greatest comeback stories in all of sports history. This is The Tony Conigliaro Story... -Endorsements - The Major League Baseball Hall Of Fame: “The Tony Conigliaro Story is highly recommended, particularly for those of Red Sox Nation.” - Bruce Markusen, Senior Executive, MLB Hall of Fame ESPN: “I loved it! So much I didn’t know. What a crazy story. You did a terrific job with it. I wish more young fans today knew exactly how good he really was! Thanks again!” - Jay Crawford, Sports Anchor, ESPN Fenway Nation: "This is a must-read for every Red Sox fan — those who lived through it all or those who need to know how it happened. Bruce Fitzpatrick does a masterful job of letting us all recall the amazing life of Tony C. We recommend the book highly. Ernie Paicopolos, Executive Julie Markakis: I finished the book this morning. I want to express my gratitude for such a great read. You truly captured Tony’s life. I’m sure he is smiling down on you. I hope you sell tons of copies. Julie Markakis Childhood Sweetheart, Lifelong Friend Red Sox Nation, The Villages, FL: We’ve made Bruce Fitzpatrick an honorary member for the work he has done on Tony Conigliaro’s life, and for the interest he has generated after having performed two speaking engagements in front our substantial audiences. Many Of The Book's Readers: Have compared The Tony Conigliaro Story to Brian’s Song.
I was 13 when I first saw Tony's face on the cover of Sports Illustrated with his battered eye. Curiosity made me read the article, but hearing Tony's story I was completely drawn into his life and quickly became an avid fan, to say the least. I started reading everything I could find on him, started listening to the Sox games on the radio, collected every article and picture I could find for my scrapbook which I still have well over 40 years later. I got to see him play in person at RFK Stadium when the Washington Senators were still a team. I remember he was so handsome, friendly and charming, and he autographed his book "Seeing it Through" for me when I joined the legion of fans waiting for him outside the stadium. That book was a prized possession until it was accidently thrown out years later during a move to another city. Like many people who remember what they were doing the day Elvis died or John Lennon died, I remember exactly what I was doing the day I learned Tony died. Call it a childhood crush or admiring a hero from afar, Tony still holds an indelible place in my heart. Reading Mr. Fitzpatrick's book was such a joy and bittersweet reacquaintance with Tony's story, and I highly recommend it for any one who loves baseball, true stories of courage, or just simply a well-written and insightful novel about a man so full of heart and zest for life. I, for one, will remain hopeful The Tony Conigliaro Story eventually makes it to the big screen. For me, it would definitely bring back that excitement the first time I bought a ticket to RFK Stadium to see Tony Conigliaro play baseball.
